In 2021, Aeroplan diamond, black and silver will no longer be offered
As we prepare for the launch of a more rewarding Aeroplan in 2020, we're reimagining how we can best recognize our most loyal Aeroplan members, including the launch of a single, streamlined recognition program. In preparation for this, over the course of next year, we'll be winding down the Aeroplan status program. Please note that this change does not impact Air Canada Altitude.

CAN I STILL QUALIFY FOR AEROPLAN STATUS IN 2020?
Members can qualify for Aeroplan status in 2020 based on the eligible miles they earn through December 31, 2019.

Beginning in January 2020, you will no longer be able to qualify for Aeroplan status.

If you qualify for Aeroplan status for 2020, you will be able to enjoy your benefits up until December 31, 2020.

HOW DOES THIS IMPACT MY AEROPLAN STATUS BENEFITS IN 2020?
Members who earn 2020 Aeroplan status will continue to have access to many of the benefits they enjoy today. Please note that the following benefits will no longer be offered when we relaunch Aeroplan later in 2020:
  • Market Fare Flight Reward discounts, available to all Aeroplan status members.
  • Preferential Rates on Flight Reward Fees, available to Aeroplan Diamond status members.
While we are saying goodbye to Aeroplan status in 2021, you will be able to access many similar benefits as part of the refreshed Aeroplan launching in 2020.

WHAT IF I’VE ALREADY REACHED AEROPLAN STATUS FOR 2020?
Aeroplan diamond, black and silver status members for 2020 can continue to enjoy many of the benefits they enjoy today up until December 31, 2020.

WHY DID WE MAKE THIS DECISION?
For the past five years, Aeroplan rewarded its top mileage‑accumulating members with diamond, black and silver status and a range of associated benefits. By contrast, Air Canada recognized its most frequent flyers with Altitude status, based on their flight activities with Air Canada and the Star Alliance member airlines.

With the refreshed Aeroplan launching in 2020, we’re making it a priority to continue rewarding our most engaged members - not only frequent flyers, but also those who earn across the entire Aeroplan partner network - with a single recognition program.

HOW DO THESE CHANGES IMPACT MY AIR CANADA ALTITUDE STATUS?
For members who will hold Air Canada Altitude status in 2020, note that these changes do not impact your Altitude status qualification, or the benefits you will enjoy.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MILES I EARN IN 2020?
You can continue to earn and redeem Aeroplan Miles with confidence. Your Aeroplan Miles will be honoured on a one‑to‑one basis when Aeroplan relaunches in 2020.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE NEW PROGRAM?
In 2020, Aeroplan will improve with new benefits and status qualification options, in addition to the more flexible reward ticket and refund features that we’ve already introduced. In the coming months, we'll also be sharing more with you about how we'll reward our most loyal members.
