Terms & Conditions
 
 
Upgrade Requests
  • Request can only be made after your purchased ticket has been issued
  • Upgrades may be requested up to 24 hours prior to departure
  • Upgrades can only be requested a maximum of 56 days in advance on ANA
  • Aeroplan Number and Password are required to complete the upgrade request
  • Upgrades for infants can only be requested for infants who have seats assigned.
Valid Carriers and flights
  • View list of participating airlines
  • Only flights marketed and operated by the same airline are permitted (Code share flights are not eligible)
  • Air Canada rouge services are not eligible
  • Air Canada flights departing from the following cities are not eligible:

    Cuba:
    Cayo Largo del Sur (CYO)
    Ciego de Avila (AVI)
    Holguin (HOG)

  • Singapore Airlines (SQ) excludes A380 / B773 / A345 aircrafts
Non-eligible Booking Classes and Tickets
  • Only those booking classes listed in the chart below are eligible
  • Reward tickets and free tickets are not eligible
  • Industry discount, agency discount tickets where the airline is not disclosed until after payment are not eligible
Upgrade Class of Service
Upgrade one class of service from
  • Economy to Business (on carriers that only offer Economy and Business cabins on 2-cabin aircraft)
  • Economy to First (on carriers that only offer Economy and First cabins on 2-cabin aircraft
  • Business to First (on carriers that have 3-cabin aircraft)
    Double upgrades from Economy to First cabins are not permitted on 3-cabin aircraft
Reservation Guidelines
You may redeem miles for:
  • Upgrades must apply to all passengers on your reservation.
  • No more than four (4) passengers per reservation may be upgraded
  • Call original booking source if only some passengers on the reservation wish to upgrade, OR in the case of 4 or more passengers on a reservation who wish to upgrade, to have the reservation divided
  • Upgrade requests can be made for only two (2) flight segments at a time
Mileage Requirements
  • Miles will be deducted from one Aeroplan account for all passengers per upgrade request
  • Mileage levels required are per person, per flight segment
  • Mileage levels required vary by your flight origin, destination, and booking class

Mileage Accumulation
  • Mileage accumulation is based on the original ticketed booking class
Upgrade Confirmation
  • If a seat is available, upgrade will be confirmed at time of request
Upgrade Entitlements
Upgrade benefits include:
  • Lounge access
  • Priority check-in
  • Priority baggage handling
  • Priority boarding
  • A more comfortable and personal level of service onboard
Upgrade Availability
  • Upgrades are subject to each carrier's availability and may not be available on all flights
  • Some carriers may impose blackout periods or route restrictions where upgrade awards are not permitted
Standby / Waitlist
  • Airport standby is not permitted
  • Reservation waitlist is not permitted
Cancellation / Change
Members wishing to change or cancel a booking which includes a flight segment upgraded with a Star Alliance Upgrade Award must follow the following two step process:
1. Contact the carrier operating the flight to makes changes or to cancel your upgraded segment(s)
  • Cancellation or change of an upgraded flight segment by the operating carrier will cancel the upgrade
  • Miles will automatically be deposited to your account 24 to 48 hours after the cancellation or change
2. Contact the original booking source to book a new flight segment if required
Seat Selection and Special Service Requests (SSRs)
  • Contact the operating carrier > to make your seat selection or for your upgraded flight segment(s) or to make your special service requests for your upgraded flight segment(s) such as a special mea
  • Please note that not all special service requests are eligible for Star Alliance Upgrade Awards and special service request eligibility may vary by participating carrier
