"Why is Aeroplan announcing this now if changes aren't effective until 2020?"

+Read answer

Our members have questions about the future of Aeroplan and the transformation is already in progress. Last year, we enhanced our car rental rewards and our travel search platform. Recently we announced a new earning opportunity with Amazon.ca. This is simply the beginning of our journey; there are more great things to come from Aeroplan.

"How does this announcement impact me?"

Right now, nothing has changed. Members can continue to earn miles on Air Canada flights until June 29, 2020. Members can also redeem for flights on Air Canada and Star Alliance airlines up to at least June 29, 2020 for trips that take place up to 12 months after that date.

Starting in July 2020, you won’t be limited to seat inventory from one airline or network when you want to redeem valued miles. Instead, you’ll be able to choose any available seat from more airlines to more destinations than today. In the short term, we will continue to give members the ability to enjoy a wider selection of car rentals and accommodations, as well as unveil new features and new ways to earn miles at accelerated rates on Aeroplan.com. We have many exciting announcements to come.

"Are my miles safe?"

We want to reassure you that your miles are safe, and you can continue to earn and redeem, as you do today. As we make the transition, members will still be able to redeem their miles for flight rewards, but instead of one carrier, they will be able to choose any available seat from more airlines to more destinations than today.

"Was this transformation triggered by Air Canada partnership's termination?"

+Read answer

Air Canada's decision to launch its own program only accelerated the execution of our transformation. By listening to members, we have a unique opportunity to meet our members' demand for more choice, flexibility and convenience.

"Will I be able to get seats on other Star Alliance airlines?"

"How will this new version of Aeroplan differ from other travel-based loyalty programs?"

+Read answer

We believe that the best travel experience does not yet exist. While flight rewards will remain at the core of our reward offering, we will provide a broader travel offering while delivering the competitive value that members expect, and more earning power.

"Is Aeroplan becoming a travel booking platform like Trivago, Expedia, Travelocity?"

+Read answer

The new Aeroplan will be adding so much more value for its members. We are transforming the travel planning and booking process into an extraordinary experience. While flight rewards will remain core to our offer, we will differentiate ourselves by playing a broader role in travel and delivering a truly integrated, simpler, more intuitive product that delivers on choice, flexibility and convenience.

"How can I accumulate Aeroplan miles faster?"

+Read answer

We will be introducing a new cash and miles payment option to provide members more choice. Cash payments will deliver an accelerated earn, getting members to the people and places that matter most faster. For example, a 5-night stay at a hotel for $200 per night could earn up to 15,000 miles.

Members can earn miles on more than 150 major brand websites like Amazon.ca, Costco.ca and Hudson’s Bay through our eStore shopping portal, as well as with our growing network of over 75 world-class partners including Home Hardware, Toyota, Avis and Marriott. Members can earn even more with their Aeroplan status by getting three times the miles per dollar spent when shopping through the eStore. Earn up to 1.5 Aeroplan miles per $1 spent on everyday purchases by simply using an Aeroplan-affiliated financial card.

"How will Aeroplan be simpler to use?"

+Read answer

The new Aeroplan will feature a redesigned user experience – one that is mobile friendly, intuitive and easy to use. Members will be able to compare options for flights, accommodations, car rentals, vacation packages and more all in one place while seeing paying options at a glance so they can quickly and easily browse, book and go.

"How will it work?"

The enhanced member experience will roll-out in all interaction points between members and Aeroplan. The overall user experience will improve at every level from mobile to online right up to the Contact centre.
