"Will Aimia and Air Canada be ending their relationship after 2020?"

Although we can’t share the details related to our program post June 2020 just yet; Air Canada has publically stated they plan to offer Aimia redemption seats for Aeroplan members after June 2020.

Our plan is to offer you a reimagined program that provides access not only to flight bookings on many different airlines, but also to a complete travel experience. Air Canada has stated they would like to continue their relationship with us when the current contract expires. In any event, we plan to provide many flight rewards options for our members.

"What does the announcement that Air Canada is launching a frequent flyer program in 2020 mean for Aeroplan members today?"

Right now, nothing has changed. You can continue to earn miles on Air Canada eligible flights, and you can redeem for flights on Air Canada and Star Alliance member airlines until at least June 29, 2020, for trips that take place up to 12 months after that. In addition to flights, Aeroplan Miles can be redeemed for more than 1,000 exciting merchandise, hotel, car rental and experiential rewards.

"Will my Aeroplan Miles expire after June 29, 2020?"

You should continue earning miles as you do now with your Aeroplan-affiliated financial card, which you can redeem later for a great selection of exciting travel, merchandise and experiential rewards.

"What's the difference between Aeroplan and an airline frequent flyer program?"

The majority of our members earn miles not by flying but by consolidating their everyday spending within the Aeroplan network of more than 75 world-class partners, representing more than 150 partner brands in the financial, retail, and travel sectors. By using an Aeroplan-affiliated financial card, Aeroplan members earn miles on everyday purchases like every time they buy groceries and pay for gas. "What happens to my Air Canada Altitude status?"

Aeroplan Miles are earned on all eligible purchases performed with your Aeroplan-affiliated financial card, regardless of, whether purchases are performed at Aeroplan partner or non-partner locations. In the meantime, there are still three more years to earn with the current Air Canada partnership and using your Aeroplan-affiliated financial card after June 2020 will continue to be the fastest way to earn Aeroplan Miles. We're working hard to ensure that you're able to redeem Aeroplan Miles for flight rewards on multiple industry-leading airlines long past 2020, which may include Air Canada. "Will you still be honoring flight rewards booked prior to June 29, 2020 for travel dates happening after that date?"

Yes. You can redeem for flights on Air Canada and more than 25 Star Alliance member airlines until at least June 29, 2020, even if your travel dates are post June 29, 2020. You can redeem for up to a year in advance as you would normally do. Members can also keep on earning Aeroplan Miles on Air Canada and Star Alliance member airlines eligible flights for travel dates up to June 29, 2020.
